Dear Farid
My wife and I met you years ago at Margaret' home in Surrey Hills, where you played the Prokofiev Toccata, which I am still trying to master myself. But I have heard your recording of it twice recently on Classic Drive. It is a marvellous performance which illuminates the Toccata in a way that other pianists, even Mathe Argerich, don't, perhaps because they take it at such a breakneck speed.
I did not know that you had been a pupil of my cousin Geoffrey.
Jenny and I wish you every success for your Carnegie Hall debut. What an exciting prospect for you.
I have also enjoyed your repertoire with the cellist Zoe Knighton. My daughter Victoria, who went to school with Genevieve, is a lawyer and cellist.
Kind regards
Hugh Northam

Dear Hugh,

That is very kind of you - so glad you like my rendition of the Prokofiev Toccata. It's great fun and so satisfying to play! I've always thought it's one of those works that can't be too fast, otherwise it loses its effect.

I didn't realise you're Geoffrey's cousin - small world! He was a great teacher, I learnt so much from him, primarily by watching him demonstrate, which he would do a lot in lessons.

Thanks again for your lovely comment!

Amir

Dear Amir
No doubt your Carnegie Hall went very well yesterday. How exciting it must have been. Geoffrey would have been very thrilled.
I will peruse today's New York Times for any reviews, but perhaps you could be so kind as to send me any relevant links.
With best wishes
Hugh Northam

So happy and proud to hear you are still going strong. You always had the talent and as you know, I called you my little Mozart when teaching you how to read music. I always talk about you and tell people how successful you are. I hope your family are well. Say hi to your mum and dad. Are they still in Bundoora?? Take care Amir. Love always... your first piano teacher.... Laura 🎼🎹🎼🎹
