Choir of St. Ignatius Loyola
K. Scott Warren, conductor Elisa Singer Strom, soprano Augusta Caso, mezzo-soprano Douglas Purcell, tenor Enrico Lagasca, bass Amir Farid, piano Michael Sheetz, piano Artis Wodehouse, harmonium There is nothing petite about this monumental mass setting, which Rossini wrote following a thirty-year self-imposed retirement from composing opera. It is a tour-de-force for chorus and soloists alike, and is one of the many reasons Rossini earned the respect of his dear friend Giuseppe Verdi. We present the piece in its original—and Rossini’s preferred—form: chamber choir accompanied by two pianos and harmonium, with four vocal soloists.
