Our first concert of the season will feature works exploring a broad range of musical textures, starting with the incisive and percussive “Wax and Wire” by Viet Cuong. Other pieces on the program include “Little Bits” by Stacy Garrop, which comprises five short and fanciful movements. “D’un Soir Triste” (1918), intensely lyrical and dark, is the final work by impressionist composer Lili Boulanger, who passed away at age 24. Jared Miller’s “Absolute”, written in 2020 as a way to escape the stress of the pandemic, is a musical kaleidoscope of varying textures and emotions. To close the program, we will premiere “Travelling Light” by Scott Wheeler. Commissioned by Chris Grymes and National Sawdust, the piece is inspired by the color combinations of the clarinet, violin and piano.
