I am excited to once again be the official pianist for the annual Lyndon Woodside oratorio solo competition. Since 1977 the Oratorio Society of New York has hosted a solo competition to encourage the art of oratorio singing and to give young singers an opportunity to advance their careers. Saturday April 18th 2020 Weill Recital Hall @ Carnegie Hall, New York City Click here for more information.
Choir of St. Ignatius Loyola
K. Scott Warren, conductor Elisa Singer Strom, soprano Augusta Caso, mezzo-soprano Douglas Purcell, tenor Enrico Lagasca, bass Amir Farid, piano Michael Sheetz, piano Artis Wodehouse, harmonium There is nothing petite about this monumental mass setting, which Rossini wrote following a thirty-year self-imposed retirement from composing opera. It is a tour-de-force for chorus and soloists alike, and is one of the many reasons Rossini earned the respect of his dear friend Giuseppe Verdi. We present the piece in its original—and Rossini’s preferred—form: chamber choir accompanied by two pianos and harmonium, with four vocal soloists. Thursday October 17th 2019, 8pm Church of St. Ignatius Loyola 980 Park Avenue (@ 84th Street) New York NY 10028 Please click here for more information. It is an honour to be the official pianist once again for the Lyndon Woodside Oratorio Solo competition, hosted by the Oratorio Society of New York.
In 1977 the Oratorio Society of New York inaugurated a solo competition to encourage the art of oratorio singing and to give young singers an opportunity to advance their careers. International in scope, it is the only competition dedicated solely to the art of oratorio singing. Competition winners have appeared in concert with the Oratorio Society of New York as well as with other major choral societies and orchestras worldwide. In 2006 the competition’s name was changed to honor Lyndon Woodside, the Society’s late Music Director, and his dedication to the competition from its inception. I am thrilled to be the Celeste player for this monumental and heartwarming production of Mark Morris’ “The Hard Nut”, set to Tchaikovsky’s “The Nutcracker”.
Mark Morris Dance Group’s beloved retro-modern reimagining of The Nutcracker comes back to BAM for the holidays. A cascade of wit and wintry beauty, this lavish, gender-bent love letter to the classic transplants E.T.A. Hoffmann’s original story from the straitlaced 1890s to the swinging 70s, with raucous parties, dancing G.I. Joes, whimsical costumes, and a Waltz of the Snowflakes like no other. Based on the comic book art of Charles Burns and featuring Tchaikovsky’s complete original score, performed live by the 53-piece MMDG Music Ensemble, Morris’ lyrical, modern retelling playfully preserves the warm spirit of an essential holiday tradition. December 14-23, 2018 BAM (Brooklyn Academy of Music) Howard Gilman Opera House Brooklyn, NY Click here to be taken to the MMDG web page with more details. Not to be missed!
